A short story about the AME Church
The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church is a Protestant Christian denomination founded in 1816 in Philadelphia by Richard Allen, a formerly enslaved man and Methodist preacher. It was established to provide African Americans the freedom to worship without discrimination while preserving the core beliefs and practices of Methodism. The AME Church operates within a connectional structure, meaning its congregations are united under shared leadership rather than functioning independently. Today, it is a global denomination with episcopal leadership, linking local churches to regional and international governance through a strong, connected system of faith and administration.
