Church is supposed to be a place of worship, community, safety, and healing—but sometimes the deepest wounds happen in the very place where we expected to be loved. Hurt can come from the pulpit, but it can also come from the pews. Leaders can wound people, and people can wound leaders.
Message: When the Church Hurts
Scripture: Psalm 55:12–14, 20–22
David describes a particularly painful kind of betrayal—not an attack from a stranger, but hurt caused by someone with whom he once shared close fellowship. Church hurt cuts differently because it often comes from people we trusted spiritually.
“Church people aren’t perfect.” We will talk about betrayal, rejection, gossip, exclusion, hypocrisy, and the disappointment that comes when the people who preached love failed to demonstrate it.
Healing begins when we stop pretending the wound does not hurt.
